Aquarium fish food is any plant or animal material intended for consumption by companion fish kept in aquariums or ponds. Fish food normally contains macronutrients, trace elements and vitamins necessary to keep fish in captivity healthy. About 80% of fish-feeding hobbyists feed their fish only prepared foods that are usually produced in flakes, granules, or tablets. Pelletized forms, some of which sink quickly, are often used for larger fish or bottom-feeding species such as loaches or catfish.
